Notebook Sketches-Stairs

The artwork of Piccinini has an alien apperance but express human themes, as if she is materializing alien creatures that share human emotions. The idea that the artworks came from another world is expressed in the hovering studio, which is literally off this planet. In the stairs, I am trying to recreate the sense of objects being beamed down or materialize in an Aroura that originated in the UFO (as seen in may cheched movies). Hence the stairs is based on dynamic and fluid forms that better refelect the nature of light and advanced alien technology.
The studios designed for Patrick Nolan is already on the same submurged level as the exhibiton space, hence the second set of stairs is substuted by terminals that link the exhibition space and the manouverable studios. Sidney Nolan's work is characterized by his often surreal charactes set in an sparce and powerful background that is similar to the Australian outback. When I look at Nolan's artwork, I get the impression that he would wonder through the Australian Outback alone until he reaches a theme or concept that he would like to express in painting. This was the idea behind the mobile underwater studios.
